Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19 1946) is an American actor, singer as well as philanthropist and businesswoman who is most famous for her contributions to the field of country music. Parton's popularity as a songwriter prompted her to release her first album in 1967, with Hello, I'm Dolly. It was followed by success throughout the 1960s, both as a solo performer as well as with the series she recorded with Porter Wagoner, before she reached her peak sales during the 1970s, and continued to do so until the 1980s. Although Parton's 1990s albums did not sell well however, she did achieve commercial success in the 2000s. The singer has since released albums through various independent labels, including Dolly Records. The label has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.Parton's music includes Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)-certified platinum, gold and multi-platinum awards. 25 of her tracks have reached the top. 1 on the Billboard country charts, which is a record for a female singer (tied with Reba McEntire). Her 44 Top 10 Country Albums are an all-time record for any artist.
