William Maher (/ma:r/; born on January 20, 1956) is an American comedian, writer producer, political commentator actor, and TV host. He is known for the HBO political talk show Real Time with Bill Maher (2003-present) and the similar late-night show called Politically Incorrect (1993-2002) which aired initially on Comedy Central and later on ABC. In 2022, Maher started the podcast The Club Random.Maher is known for his satire of politics and sociopolitical commentary. Maher tackles a wide range of subjects, such as religion, political correctness, and mass media. Religulous is his documentary about religion that he made in 2008, was founded on his critical views. He is a supporter of animal rights, having been on the PETA board since 1997. PETA since 1997. He is a member on the advisory board of Project Reason.Maher believes in the legalization of cannabisand is being on the advisory board of NORML.In 2005, Maher ranked at number 38 on Comedy Central's 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time. Maher was awarded an honorary Hollywood Walk of Fame star on September 14, 2010. In 2014, Maher won a Primetime Emmy Award for his role as executive producer for Vice.
