She made her debut on film in Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999), where she played in a supporting role. She also made guest appearances on TV and performed "mean women" roles in feature films that had low budgets. Her first major role came in Steven Spielberg's biopic Catch Me If You Can (2002), but she went unemployed for nearly one year following the film. Her breakthrough came in 2005, when she played an intelligent, pregnant woman in Junebug (2005).
