Taraji Penda Henson (/t@'ra:dZi/ t@-RAH-jee; born September 11, 1970) is an American actress. She studied acting at Howard University and began her Hollywood career as a guest on a variety of television shows prior to making her breakthrough in Baby Boy (2001). She played a prostitute on Hustle & Flow (2005) where she received an award called the Screen Actors Guild Award in the category of Outstanding Performance for a Cast in a Motion Picture nomination. In 2008, she played the role of a single mother with a disabled child in David Fincher's The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button (2008) for which she won Critics Choice Award, SAG Award, and Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress. She starred in Date Night in 2010 and was also a co-star in the remake of The Karate Kid with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith.
