Karen Sheila Gillan, /'gIl@n/ was born 28 November 1987 and is a Scottish actress. Her work in British television and film brought her fame, particularly for her performance as Amy Pond, the primary companion to Doctor Who's Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who (2010-2013), which was nominated for and was awarded numerous prizes. Her first film roles included Ally in the thriller film Outcast (2010) as well as Jane Lockhart in the romantic comedy film Not Another Happy Ending (2013). She also appeared on stage in Britain as she appeared in John Osborne's play Inadmissible Evidence (2011) prior to making her Broadway debut in the production Time to Act (2013).Gillan made her transition to Hollywood acting as Kaylie Russell in the film horror Oculus (2013), her first commercial success in the United States, and thereafter was the lead character in the sitcom Selfie (2014). Her international fame was achieved through playing Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
