American musician James Alan Hetfield was born on the 3rd of August of 1963. He is the main singer of Metallica, a rhythm guitarist, co-founder and primary songwriter of the heavy metal band Metallica. He is mainly known for his intricate rhythm playing, but occasionally performs solos and guitar solos on stage and in the studio. Hetfield was the co-founder of Metallica in October of 1981, following responding to an advertisement from drummer Lars Ulrich in the Los Angeles newspaper The Recycler. Metallica received nine Grammy Awards, and has released ten studio albums and three extended plays as well as 24 singles. Hetfield was ranked No. Joel McIver's book The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists puts Hetfield in the top spot at the number. 8. Hit Parader placed him at No. 8 in Joel McIver's book of the 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists and at No. 24 in Hit Parader's list titled the 100 Greatest Metal Vocalists. Rolling Stone placed him as the 87th greatest guitarist of all time.
