America's Store (AS) began in 1988 under the name of Home Shopping Club Overnight Service that aired on television stations throughout the US between midnight to 9 AM and, specifically the New York metropolitan area on WWOR-TV between 3am and 6 am in the New York City metro area. HSN launched its Home Shopping Service 24 hours throughout the day in 1989, after the acquisition of several low-power stations. The title of the channel was again changed in 1997 to American's Jewelry Store, to reflect the change to sell only jewelry. In 1998, after some limited results with this version, HSN expanded the inventory to all categories and removed the jewelry from its name. AS became part of the DirecTV line-up in 2003. The TV stations with low power owned by HSN with affiliates and partners could be found in each major metropolitan market - including a transmitter atop the World Trade Center until September 11, 2001.Much of the products offered on AS was distressed inventory from HSN, so the prices were usually dropped until they were liquidated or taken off the broadcasting. Competitor QVC had a spin-off channel called "Q2" for only two years, from 1994 to the year 1996. After Barry Diller's departure from QVC and the purchase of HSN the majority of Q2 employees migrated to HSN as well as America's Store.
