Matthew Burton Brown (born January 10 1981) is an American mixed martial artist who is currently competing in the Welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Brown, a professional competitor since 2004, was a contestant during the seventh season of The Ultimate Fighter television series. He holds the record for the highest number of UFC Welterweight knockouts. Brown was born in Jamestown. After being home schooled for two years, he enrolled in Greeneview High School, where he struggled to fit in. In a small town , with no prospects beyond a low paying factory job as a machinist Brown became frustrated and began to use alcohol and drugs. In the beginning that lasted for a while, he was dependent on meth, regularly used cocaine and was often entangled into fights with friends at gatherings. He was homeless in his twenties and had been to prison following an overdose of heroin.
