Jayne Mansfield (born Vera Jayne Palmer born on April 19, 1933 - June 29 1967) was an American actress, singer, nightclub entertainer, and Playboy Playmate. Mansfield was a famous sex icon in the 1960s and 1950s, was contracted to 20th Century Fox. She is well-known for her public appearances as well as publicity stunts. Although her film career was brief Mansfield enjoyed numerous box office successes and was awarded both a Theatre World Award as well as an Golden Globe Award. Mansfield enjoyed success as the character actress Rita Marlowe in the Broadway production Will Success be a stumbling block for Rock Hunter? (1955-1956) in which she reprised in the film version of the play with the play (1957).
