Dolly Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19, 1946) is an American singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman, known primarily for her contributions to country music. After having achieved success as a songwriter for others, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly, that led to success over the remainder of the 1960s (both as a solo artist and through a series of duet albums with Porter Wagoner), before her chart-toppers and sales came during the 1970s and continued through the 1980s. Although her 1990 albums didn't sell well, she was able to achieve commercial success in the 2000s. The singer has since released albums under various independent labels such as Dolly Records. Parton has sold more than 100 million albums around the globe. Her music includes Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA-certified platinum, gold, and multi-platinum award-winning tracks. 25 of her tracks have reached the top. She reached the no. 1 on the Billboard country chart this year, which is the highest record for a female artist (tied to Reba McEntire).
