Christina Renee Hendricks (born May 3, 1975) is an American actress and former model. With an extensive career in stage and screen she has won numerous distinctions, including six Primetime Emmy Award nominations, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Critics' Choice Awards for Best Supporting actress in a Drama Series. She is probably best known for her character Joan Harris in the critically popular AMC drama series Mad Men. Esquire magazine named her the "sexiest woman" in 2010, based on a survey of female readers. Hendricks was also voted the "Best Looking Woman in America". She was born to an American mother in Knoxville, Tennessee and an English father from Twin Falls, Idaho. After graduating from high school in Virginia she relocated to New York City, where she began a career in modeling after her Seventeen cover contest entry. After being a model internationally for more than 10 years, she moved into acting.
